In this edition:

• The EAT hold that on its proper construction, the contractual clause relating to holiday pay provided not just a right to non-guaranteed overtime to be included, but also voluntary overtime and the basis for calculation.
• The Home Office has published updated guidance for employers on carrying out right to work checks which includes further clarification on appropriate steps for employers in relation to existing employees.
• A study of sickness absence data from 287 organisations with a total of 398,000 employees has shown that while employees took less time off sick last year, the cost increased.
• A report by Henley Business School reveals that 39% of those in employment ‘side hustle’ by running a small business or secondary job in addition to their main career, to meet a financial need or to fulfill a passion.
