In this edition:

• The new Parental Bereavement Leave and Pay Act received Royal Assent on 13 September 2018 and will provide a new workplace right to leave for bereaved parents.
• The MoJ have published quarterly tribunal statistics for April to June 2018 which show that single ET claims increased by 165% compared to the same period in 2017 and multiple claims increased by 344%.
• Acas has launched new guidance for employers and employees on job references based on their advice around the typical questions that they receive on their helpline.
• A senior police officer who used the phrase “whiter than white” in a briefing, during which he discussed the need to be faultless and above reproach in carrying out inquiries, is under investigation.
