In this edition:

• The EAT holds that an employee had been unfairly dismissed when the employer refused to postpone a disciplinary hearing for two weeks to enable a full-time union official to accompany her at the hearing.
• The Government have published guidance on the actions employers can take which are likely to improve recruitment and progression of women and reduce the gender pay gap.
• CIPD and High Pay Centre research shows Total FTSE 100 Chief Executive pay has increased by 11% in the past year fuelling questions over fairness and governance in Britain’s biggest businesses.
• ONS Labour Market figures for April to June 2018 show that there were 32.39 million people in work, 313,000 more than for a year earlier and there has been a reduction in the use of zero hours contracts.
