Simons Muirhead Burton LLP (SMB) is proud to have hosted award winning author, Jeanette Winterson, at our Women’s Exchange event in the firm’s Newman Street offices on 1 November 2018.
The lively talk by Ms Winterson sparked a vigorous debate with guests, focussing on the #MeToo campaign, feminism’s relevance to millennials and the changing depictions of women in the media, workplace and in the arts. Guests included women from corporate, legal, academic and artistic backgrounds. One client commented: “It was humbling to observe and be privy to such intelligent debate from women whose passion was inspiring.”
Jeanette Winterson CBE has written seventeen books, including the national bestsellers Why Be Happy When You Can Be Normal?, Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, Sexing the Cherry and The Passion. Her work has centred on identity, feminism and LGBT issues.

The Birmingham County Court has today handed down judgment in favour of long standing SMB client, Mohammed Arif, a veteran Cabinet Member and former Conservative Councillor for St Matthew’s, concluding proceedings relating to his discrimination claim against officers of the former Walsall Conservative Federation (now the Walsall and Bloxwich Association).
