Brian is a Senior Associate in the Music department.

He works on contract law, commercial negotiations, intellectual property, disputes, corporate transactions and corporate governance for the music and wider entertainment industries including fashion, tv, film, theatre and musical theatre.

Brian’s expertise  includes artist development, music deals and licensing, corporate transactions, acquisitions and sales of music catalogues, joint ventures, artist collaborations, dispute resolution, IP management. He works alongside recording artists, songwriters, live performers, producers, DJs, record labels, music publishers, touring agencies, event companies, music marketing and artist managers.

Brian’s career highlights include being dual qualified in NSW Australia, and England and Wales, previously legal counsel in Australia for TMRW Music Group (Ministry of Sound Australia), where he was also engaged as a violinist to perform in the Ministry of Sound Orchestra for Ministry of Sound Classical, Central Station Records, and Sweat It Out. He also continues to work as a professional violinist and DJ.

Brian started working at a community legal centre focussed on helping Australian artists (Arts Law Centre of Australia), and then did a clerkship and graduate program eventually becoming a lawyer at a national corporate firm in Sydney Australia where he rotated through insurance, commercial litigation, government, not-for-profits and charities, building and construction, and insolvency. He then qualified to practice in the UK and came to SMB, developing legal and industry knowledge to navigate both the business and artistic aspects of my clients work.

Brian is a member of the following groups: International Association of Entertainment Lawyers, London Lawyers Orchestra, Copyright Society of Australia, Sydney Lawyers Orchestra.
