Fiona McGugan volunteers for the female-led, non-profit ‘The Cat’s Mother’, who support women entering the music industry, and recently spoke to them about her career journey.
The Cat’s Mother was founded by Niki Evangelou and Natalie Wade in November 2019. Having previously worked together at a youth-led music charity for 6 years, Niki and Natalie realised the difference in the way the boys’ careers developed compared to the way the girls’ seemed to. Although the girls were initially easier to place in secondments (mostly in admin and personal assistant roles), their progression was a lot slower. With a lack of visible female role models, it became clear that there needed to be a formalised process around seeking out the best women in the business and connecting them with rising talent across a wide range of creative areas. The Cat’s Mother is a network of hard-working, established women in the Music and Creative Industries offering voluntary consultancy for young aspiring creatives, aged 18-25.
Fiona is featured as Cat’s Mother of The Month for April and describes her career journey to become a music lawyer and how she first became interested in the law. Please read the full interview here.
