Following its expansion through the promotion of four Partners across three departments, Simons Muirhead Burton is delighted to share some information on our new talent.
In this article, Henrietta Ronson, shares a bit about herself, her practice and our firm.
Henrietta is a Partner in SMB’s Crime and Regulatory department, joining the firm as an Associate in 2018 receiving a promotion to Senior Associate in 2019.
Speaking on her route into criminal law, she noted her interest in the area stems from helping the most vulnerable in society. Henrietta said: “I trained at one of the largest legal aid firms in the country. I wanted to use the law to help people who really need it.
“My practice has evolved, particularly since moving to SMB – while the cases are as varied, we only take on private work.”
Henrietta deals with a wide array of high-profile and private client cases across the full spectrum of criminal law, including fraud, corruption, crime and disciplinary matters. She has particular experience in defending all types of sexual offence allegations.
When asked what kind of clients she is most excited about working with in her new role as Partner, Henrietta noted: “I am excited by all my clients. All their stories mean something to me.”
During her time at Simons Muirhead Burton, she has represented high-net-worth individuals, Premier League footballers, head teachers, musicians, and politicians.
She has amassed a wealth of stories. When asked the most interesting case she has worked on, Henrietta did not disappoint: “My client successfully relied on the complicated legal defence of ‘sexomonia’, where their actions (which amounted to allegations of sexual assault) were explained by a form of sleepwalking.
“They were in a state of automatism and therefore their movements were involuntary, in other words, they had no control over what they were doing.”
Throughout her tenure at SMB, Henrietta has garnered many accolades and acknowledgments. She is ranked in Chambers and Partners, the Legal 500 and Spears.
Congratulations, Henrietta!
