Last week SMB confirmed that the firm had been instructed by Lee Castleton OBE, to issue proceedings in the High Court against both the Post Office and Fujitsu seeking to remove a civil judgement against him obtained as long ago as 2007, and for damages.
Partner Simon Goldberg and Mr Castleton appeared on BBC Breakfast alongside presenters Ben Thompson and Rachel Burden, to discuss Mr Castleton’s case.
The key focus of the discussion was to explore why Mr Castleton had decided to issue a claim now instead of relying on the Compensation Schemes that the Post Office and the Department of Business and Trade have established, and more problematically, they are also running. Simon’s role was to explain the likely next steps and direction of travel for the case and he also focused on the internal wrangle between Post Office and Fujitsu who are each seeking to blame the other for the Post Office Scandal.
Mr Castleton contends that the Post Office, in collusion with others, secured its judgment against him through fraud by concealing evidence of Horizon’s faults. The ruling destroyed his business, livelihood, and reputation, leading to bankruptcy and causing lasting harm to his and his family’s health.
