SMB’s Music department has launched a partnership with The BRIT School, the UK’s first and leading free performing and creative arts school, who are responsible for nurturing the early talent of British stars such as Adele, Jessie J, Loyle Carner, Cat Burns, Raye, FKA Twigs, Olivia Dean and Amy Winehouse, amongst many other successful composers, actors, designers, directors and presenters.
SMB’s contribution to the BRIT School includes financial support which enables the BRIT School to remain free, and active education and mentoring by our expert team of music lawyers, led by Richard Baskind, who by sharing their industry knowledge and expertise, delivering masterclasses and workshops, will be supporting the school’s student enrichment programme and mentoring the current Year 12 and 13 Music cohort.
Richard Baskind said: “When the opportunity of partnering with the BRIT School was first broached, we had been aware of the incredible impact the school has had on many young creatives’ lives for some time. Anyone who is connected to the creative industries and beyond will be aware of the work of the BRIT School alumni and the formidable reputation the school has built over the past 30 years.
“Now, having visited the school on so many occasions, attending showcases, observing, and partaking in workshops and touring the world class facilities, SMB has really been able to witness, and be a part of, the dedication and talent the students and faculty alike bring into the school every day.
“We are proud to partner with the BRIT School, supporting the next generation of influential creatives and the hard work that Stuart and his team of educators do in nurturing these young people, preparing them for success in some of the most challenging business environments.
“Our team of music lawyers have been blown away by not only the artistic abilities displayed by BRIT School students but also their enterprise and aptitude for legal and business skills. We look forward to growing the partnership alongside them.”
Stuart Worden, Principal of The BRIT School said, “SMB have always been a friend to BRIT but this partnership will directly support both the needs of The School, helping keep BRIT the special place it has become, and also provides our students with relevant industry knowledge and expertise.”
