Al joined SMB as a Partner in the Corporate, Commercial & Finance team in September 2026.
Advising founder-led businesses and serial acquirers on M&A and corporate reorganisations, he has a particular focus on consolidators, including the design and execution of programmatic M&A strategies.
Alongside this, Al supports founders and investors on fundraising and governance matters, with a specialism in tech and AI businesses. His experience includes early-stage and growth-stage funding rounds, issues arising from international expansion, and cross-border ECVC transactions.
After training at Hogan Lovells and qualifying in 2014, he went on to work at Berwin Leighton Paisner (later Bryan Cave) and Jones Day. More recently, he served as General Counsel of a VC-backed consumer brands aggregator, where he sat on both the executive and investment committees.
In addition to his legal practice, Al is the founder of Brook Mill, an industrial SME roll-up, and continues to serve as a non-executive director. This firsthand experience of leading fundraising and acquisition programmes as a principal enables him to provide clients with commercially informed, practical advice.
